Artist Statement

The world is dense and full of mystery. And what we know of it is fragmented, incomplete, and always changing. I attempt to express the mystery through visual works that waver between thoughts and sensations, feelings and ideas.

My works reflect momentary stands that are triggered by a particular focus—a word, a question, an object, a space, a dream, a book. An exploration begins in which I attempt to find a form—a poetic one that holds a space or knowledge that is often elusive, fleeting, uncertain, multiple and ambiguous.

I choose materials that reflect the focus. Sometimes they’re book parts. Sometimes they’re discarded fragments that I find on walks or are given to me by a friend.

I often attempt to put together disparate “things” that have come apart, but were once traditional structures used to preserve, protect and hold.
