When You Know

Mixed Media Clamshell Box Constructions

 

 

In 1798 Novalis wrote, "The seat of the soul is where the inner world and the outer world meet." What did he mean? Clamshell box structures provided me a vehicle to explore this statement and reflect on the connections between inner and outer states of being. For several years, I created boxes that incorporated found objects, calligraphic forms, words and abstract images. The "When You Know" series addressed the question, "What happens when you know what you don't already know you know?"
